20th Leeds International UFO Conference (21-23 September2001)

Linie

The conference was hosted by UFO Magazine (UK).  For a more in-depth report, please read their review

In the wake of the tragedy in America, many people had queried before the conference as to whether it was going to be cancelled.  Graham W. Birdsall , editor of UFO Magazine UK and conference host remarked upon the terrible events that our American friends have to now live with along with the determination and resolve to go ahead with the conference.  Terrorism will never win.  The conference room was aptly setup with the Stars and Stripes next to the Union Jack (along with another more alien character).

Friday 21st September - Conference Diary 19:00 - 22:00

The evening saw the introduction of the speakers for the following two days.

Each speaker talked about themselves and the areas of the phenomenon that they specialize in.  Some video clips of new sighting were shown.  Unbelievably there were people there who couldn't get a ticket for the following two days - over 2000 tickets sold out!

Saturday 22nd September - Conference Diary 11:00 - 18:00

The theme of today's lectures was on abductions.  The line-up was as follows:

11:00 A Year In Profile - video highlights
11:15 Dr. John Mack (USA) - Harvard Psychiatrist (Abductions)
12:45 Lunch Break
13:45 Nick Pope (UK) & Briggite Grant (UK) - researcher & abductee
14:45 Georgina Bruni (UK) - Researcher (Rendlesham Forrest Incident)
15:45 Refreshments Interval
16:00 Bud Hopkins (USA) -Researcher (Abductions)
17:30 Armchair Forum - Q&A debate with todays speakers
18:00 Close

The conference opened with a video that highlighted some of the most striking events that have occurred in ufology over the last year.  There was a strong theme of some type of indoctrination programme being played out be the USA government (using NASA) and the Vatacan church.  More spheres have been video taped in broad daylight over the busy air-lanes of London and elsewhere - apparently no cause for alarm say the CAA.  Also shown was the growing complexity of crop circles and the Secret NASA Transmissions.

The first speaker to give a lecture was Dr. John Mack an esteemed  psychiatrist from Harvard, USA.  He openly speaks out about the reality of abductions.  This goes against the popular academic belief that it is all in the imagination.  Dr. Mack gave a very thorough lecture on the methodologies, and concepts used in his area of work in the abduction phenomenon.  Interesting stuff, but very hard going.

Next up were Nick Pope, formally MoD (UK) "UFO Desk" and Briggite Grant, a UK abductee.  Nick Pope is still working in the MoD, but in an area that is unrelated to UFOs, however, he has devoted his spare time to investigating abductions in the UK and drawing media attention to the subject through many public appearances.

It's interesting to note that in the UK the abduction phenomenon is not taken as seriously by public or academics as it is in the USA.

Nick introduced Briggite who is a multiple abduction victim and has experienced paranormal and alien events throughout her life from early childhood to the present.  Briggite related some of her childhood experiences and described them in the context of a child's description, later in the lecture to re-visit the simple child-like explanations from a more adult perspective.

One of her early experiences involved "a little Chinese girl.  I thought has to be Chinese, oriental at lease because of her eyes." and later "...a sort of gazebo in a field.  The field shimmered around it and I thought it must have been the grass swaying in the wind.  The gazebo had colored lanterns around the outside...flickering..." [not exact quotes].  We were later to find out that the little Chinese girl was probably one of the stereotypical "Greys" and the gazebo was most likely an alien craft.

Briggite also related more current abduction events, some of which occurred when she was living in the USA.  Nick introduced her to Bud Hopkins, a renowned expert of the abduction phenomenon in the USA, to try to bring clarity to Brigite's deep conscious memories through the use of regression techniques.  A superb lecture.

The next lecture to be given was from Georgina Bruni on the famous UK Rendlesham Forest Incident that occurred over a period of days in December 1980.

Georgina gave an update on the case including an overview of the official case file that was released by the MoD earlier this year.  This is the case file that the MoD has denied existed over the past decade.  An obvious and clear lie.

After a quick cup of coffee and a Mars Bar, everyone filled the lecture theatre for the next lecture by Bud Hopskins.  Bud has been investigating abduction reports in the USA for the past 20 years and is recognized as an expert in this area.

Bud related a new case that had just come to light over the past year or so.  It involves an incident where aliens abducted a woman from her top-floor bedroom (through the closed window and grill) and into the craft, in plain sight of a UN delegation of world leaders traveling back in a limousine convoy form a UN meeting.  An interesting case that implies the aliens where demonstrating their capabilities to out world leaders at a time when the former USSR was falling apart.

Saturday Night - The Gala Dinner  20:00 - (very late!)

I forgot my camera! *doh*  Must have been all that wine 'n' beer...

An excellent night at the Leeds Marriot hotel.  With everyone dressed smartly for the occasion a lovely dinner was consumed, interrupted briefly with conversation and alcohols.  Speakers were presented with a token of gratitude and a ticket raffle saw many people carting their prize back off to their table (and for some consuming it too I assume).

After dinner it was time for everyone to embarrass themselves on the dance floor with a disco mix from the DJ (and yes the first song was the theme from Star Wars - oh well 'suppose thar was to be expected !! :)

For many, including myself, after dinner was a chance to chat to people, share experiences and swap email addresses.

A fun, fun, fun packed evening which ended at ......??

Sunday 21st September - Conference Diary 10:30 - 19:00

Unfortunately Graham Ennis who was due to lecture on electrogravitics did not turn up.  This was disappointing for myself as his lecture was the one I was looking forward to the most, however, it did give the opportunity to hear from local UFO group researchers and Martyn Stubbs (Secret NASA Transmissions - The Smoking Gun).

The theme of today's lectures was on research & evidence.  The line-up was as follows:

10:30 Ted Roe (USA) - Executive Director, NARCAP
11:45 Graham Sheppard (UK) & Malcolm Smith (UK) - Pilot encounters
12:15 Lunch Break
13:15 Graham W. Birdsall (UK) - Origins
14:00 Russel Callaghan - Video roundup
15:00 Refreshments Interval
15:15 Local Group Researchers (UK) & Martyn Stubbs (CAN) - Armchair talk
17:00 Refreshments Interval
17:15 SantiagoYturria Garza (MEX) - The Mexican Wave & a new phenomenon
18:45 Close

The day started with a lecture from Ted Roe, Executive Director of NARCAP (National Aviation Reporting Center for Anomalous Phenomenon) in the USA.  NARCAP is a confidential centre allows pilots of civilian, commercial and military background submit reports on UFO sightings without the fear of being ridiculed or sacked.

Ted explained how NARCAP works.  They have an ambitious plan to survey every pilot in the USA asking them if they have seen any UAP's (Unidentified Arial Phenomenon - used becase the acronym UFO has too much stigma associated with it) and to report what it is they have seen.

The real interest for the Center are those reports that are classified as near misses.  These incidents raise concern for air safety and this is the premise by which NARCAP is highlighting the UAP issue with the FAA (Federal Air Association) and other agencies in the USA.

A very clear and concise presentation with facts and figures to back it up.

The next half hour was taken up with an armchair talk with Graham Sheppard, a former British Airways pilot and Malcolm Smith, a light commercial pilot.  Both speakers relating their experiences and sightings.  Graham Sheppard explained how there was a fear amongst pilots of loosing their job if they reported sightings of UFOs.

Graham W. Birdsall, editor of UFO Magazine (UK), gave a presentation entitles "Origins".

Who are we?  Where do we come from?  How do we fit into things?

Graham remarked on the news stories that NASA have released over the last few years, the bacteria found in the Martian Rock, possible life on Jupiters moons, extra-Solar planets detected and the possibility of alien bacteria in Earths upper atmosphere.  Are we, the public, slowly being indoctrinated into the idea that life is more prevalent in the Universe than anyone ever thought before, especially alien life?

The Vatican Church has also had it fair share of revelations over the past few years and it seems that they currently have underway a large project to indoctrinate Christian followers as to the definitive existence of alien life.

Are these two programmes linked?  If not, then why are Vatican members meeting with NASA officials.  NASA's "Origins" programme is described as looking for the "Fingerprints of Life".  The Vatican has just build a new multi-million dollar state-of-the-art observatory to search for the "Fingerprints of God".  Interesting stuff indeed.

Conference Summary - Scot UFO's Final Thoughts

The conference was well put together with great speakers.

Some of the facts given by the speakers cannot be argued with and present the "evidence" that so many academics demand.  Many of the video clips, including the Mexican footage had everyone on the edge of their seats shaking their heads in wonder.

Equally valuable, aside from the conference itself is meeting up with existing friends and meeting new ones.

All I can say is if you're not interested, you probably wouldn't have read this far and if you have, you must at least be intrigued.  Whatever your thoughts are on the phenomenon, get yourself to the 21st Leeds International Conference next year and see for yourself.
